Who Can Apply
- Any Indian citizen (including infants — no minimum age)
- Minors — parent or guardian applies on their behalf
- Government employees — need NOC from employer
- NRIs — can apply at Indian missions/consulates abroad
- Persons with pending criminal cases — may be denied (assessed case-by-case)
Important Highlights
- Passport Seva Portal 2.0 is the only official website — apply at passportindia.gov.in
- You MUST visit a PSK (Passport Seva Kendra) in person — fully online is not possible
- Police verification happens after PSK visit — stay available at your address
- Many countries require 6+ months passport validity for entry — renew early
- You can apply for reissue up to 1 year before expiry or after expiry (no penalty)
- Reissue gives a new passport number — it is not the same as renewal
- If 10th pass or above, select Non-ECR — otherwise passport shows Emigration Check Required
- e-Passport (chip-embedded) rollout has been announced — regular passports remain valid
- Appointment slots open around 6-8 AM — book early for better availability
- You can reschedule or cancel your appointment up to 2 times
