Who Can Apply

  • Any Indian citizen (including minors through guardian)
  • Hindu Undivided Families (HUF)

Important Highlights

  • PAN is mandatory for filing income tax returns
  • Required for cash transactions above Rs. 50,000 (deposits, property, vehicles, etc.)
  • You must link PAN with Aadhaar — unlinked PANs become inoperative
  • Having more than one PAN is illegal — penalty of Rs. 10,000 under Section 272B
  • e-PAN is legally valid — you do not need a physical card for most purposes
