Who Can Apply
- Age 16+ for gearless two-wheelers up to 50cc (MCWOG) — parental consent required
- Age 18+ for motorcycles with gear (MCWG) and light motor vehicles (LMV/cars)
- Age 20+ for transport/commercial vehicles — must already hold LMV licence for 1 year
- Must have valid address proof of the state where you are applying
- No minimum educational qualification required
- Must not be disqualified by any court from holding a driving licence
Important Highlights
- Learner Licence is mandatory before you can get a permanent Driving Licence
- With Aadhaar authentication, you can take the LL test online from home — no RTO visit needed
- You must display a red 'L' plate on your vehicle while driving with a Learner Licence
- You cannot drive alone — a person with a permanent DL must sit beside you
- Cannot drive on expressways or highways with a Learner Licence
- Valid across India — you can use it in any state
- If LL expires (after 6 months), you must apply fresh — no renewal option
- After getting LL, wait at least 30 days before applying for permanent DL
